If your turntable is powered on but the platter is not spinning, try the following common troubleshooting steps before contacting support.
Common Solutions
- Check the Power Supply:
- Ensure the power cable is securely plugged into both the back of the turntable and a working wall socket.
- If using a power strip or surge protector, ensure it is switched on.
- Verify the Belt (Belt-Drive Models):
- Many turntables use a belt connecting the motor to the platter.
- Remove the platter mat (and sometimes the platter itself). Check that the rubber belt is correctly seated around the motor pulley and the inner rim of the platter.
- If the belt is broken, stretched, or has slipped off, it will need to be replaced or correctly re-seated.
- Check Speed Settings:
- Ensure the speed selector switch (usually 33, 45, or 78 RPM) is set to a rotational speed. Setting it between speeds or to "off" may prevent spinning.
- Confirm the Auto-Stop/Auto-Return Feature:
- Some models have an "Auto-Stop" function. If this feature is engaged and the tonearm is not properly positioned over the platter, the platter may not start spinning. Try moving the tonearm slightly over the record position.
